This jam-packed two-day camp offers the best of our most popular summer camp activities. We’ll help zookeepers prepare a couple of animal diets and create a special smelly treat to give to our lemurs. We’ll also make some frosty enrichment surprises for some of winter-loving animals, including our arctic foxes and wolves. Together we’ll travel behind-the-scenes to meet animals both large and small. Put on your detective hat as we follow the trail of clues to solve an animal-themed mystery. Zoo Stew – How to cook for a crowd – Zoo style! Check out who eats what (or whom). Visit the kitchen that prepares the food for over 100 kinds of animals daily. Use your chef skills to prepare and deliver a meal to one lucky zoo animal.

Leaping Lizards and Amazing Amphibians – Jump into the world of reptiles and amphibians and meet lizards, frogs, tortoises and snakes. See the zoo’s biggest snakes, and meet some “turtle-ly” awesome reptiles.

Takin Treasure Hunt – The takin is one of China’s greatest treasures. Learn about other treasured animals and how ‘treasures’ can lead some animals to become endangered as you participate in this takin-sized treasure hunt.

Animal Myth-takes – Can porcupines shoot their quills? Do monkeys really like bananas? Does a layer of blubber really help to keep seals warm? Uncover the real truth about some of the animals at our zoo.

Enriching Orienteering – The animals at the Valley Zoo love treats! Using a map, navigate your way through the zoo (or Laurier Park if snow conditions permit) in search of enrichment materials. Afterwards, prepare and deliver the treats to animals.

A Zoo Who Dunnit? – Some animals at the Valley Zoo have been up to some mischief! All sorts of things are out of whack. Worst of all, one of the animals is missing. Put on your detective hat, pull out your magnifying glass and help us put things back in order!

Zoo-mazing Challenge – Wrap up the week in grand style with the Zoo-mazing Trivia Challenge. With the knowledge that you gained this week, see if you can figure out these ‘Zoo-per’ tricky puzzles!

Time Travel Adventure (Ages 6-10)

Come one, come all, to a two-day camp where you’ll travel through time! On day one, you’ll sign on to the Hudson’s Bay Company and experience a day in the life of an 1846 fur trader. Prove your strength by baling furs and building model travois and tipi, and celebrate your hard work by dancing a traditional reel and making bannock over a fire. The next day, you’ll jump ahead 40 years through time to experience Edmonton in 1885! Attend an old-fashioned school lesson, play pioneer games, and make some delicious treats to eat on a wood stove. We’ll have a grand old time!

Withdrawing or Transferring

You can transfer immediately into another program, subject to availability. Withdrawals and transfers are permitted without penalty up to 15 days prior to the program start date.

A $10 administration fee will apply if a withdrawal or transfer is requested 15 days or less prior to the program start date. If the program has started, a $10 administration fee will apply, and a prorated balance of the program fee will be refunded.
